From the recording Love In A Time Of War - 6 track mini-album
This song is about the D-Day landings in Normandy on 6th June 1944. A day that marked the beginning of the end of the Nazi threat to civilisation. The ones who lived to tell the tale say the real heroes were the ones who never came back. The song commemorates all the Allied personnel who showed up for the fight.

Listen up y’all ooh, ooh, oh
Gonna sing a song about the war, hey, hey
WW2, check it, check it
By sea and sky, on wings and prayers you came
Ten years (ten years) before the birth of Rock ‘n Roll
(Rock ‘n Roll, Rock ‘n Roll, Rock ‘n Roll yeah, yeah)
A foreign field, (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
An enemy who would not yield
The fury took its toll
When you set off on what could have been a one-way ticket
Did you leave a pretty one behind? (Leave a pretty one behind)
Marching scared into the darkness of another world
Never knowing who you were
Or what you were really gonna find
(What does it do?)
The heart burns
(The heart burns yeah, yeah)
The heart go steal away
Go steal away to die
(Go steal away to die)
We’ll never know
(We’ll never know, never know)
How big a debt we owe
(How big a debt we owe)
Reaching from the ground up to the sky
(Ground up to the sky-eye)
Hey you, (hey you) farm boy
GI Joe from Idaho
(What did you do?)
You put your back-pack on for us
(You put your back-pack on for us)
And you died alone, (Oh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
With your memories of her and home
In pain and fear, your hands holding in your guts
(What do we see?)
We see the heroes in the movies, on the TV and the rest
But we still don’t understand
(We still don’t understand)
What it was you did, what it was you gave
The pain that some still carry
For the buddies who they couldn’t save
(What does it do?)
The heart burns
(The heart burns yeah, yeah)
The heart go steal away
Go steal away to die
(Go steal away to die)
We’ll never know
(We’ll never know, never know)
How big a debt we owe
(How big a debt we owe)
Reaching from the ground up to the sky
(Ground up to the sky-eye)
Bow-bells boy you caught a ricochet
No more knees up Mother Brown
And young Will McHugh
He caught one meant for you, (Meant for you ooh, ooh)
It’s goodbye forever Glasgow town
It’s goodbye forever Glasgow town
He! Hey!
Guess that what I’ve been trying to say is
‘Thank you’ for the price you paid
For showing up for the fight
Doing what’s right and being there for us
All those years ago
Oh, the times that we’re in now
We need your spirit and your courage somehow
Evil never sleeps
Our leaders are weak
And the kids don’t get it yet
And their hearts …
By sea and sky, on wings and prayers you came,
(Their hearts will burn)
Ten years before the birth of Rock ‘n Roll
(Rock ‘n Roll, Rock ‘n Roll, Rock ‘n Roll, yeah, yeah)
More often now you steal away into a narrowing corridor of time
(Corridor of time)
Where you keep all your memories, where you weep alone
Where you still see the faces
Of the ones who never made it home
(What does it do?)
The heart burns,
(The heart burns yeah, yeah)
The heart go steal away
Go steal away to die
(Go steal away to die)
We’ll never know
(We’ll never know, never know)
How big a debt we owe
(How big a debt we owe)
Reaching from the ground up to the sky
(Ground up to the sky-eye)
(What does it do?)
The heart burns,
(The heart burns yeah, yeah)
The heart go steal away
Go steal away to die
(Go steal away to die)
We’ll never know
(We’ll never know, never know)
How big a debt we owe
(How big a debt we owe)
Reaching from the ground up to the sky
(Ground up to the sky-eye)
(Ground up to the sky, to the sky, to the sky, yeah).
